Walls/Vertical Surfaces (spot cleaned as needed)
- Relamping:Change bulbs in overhead light fixtures
(if fixture can be reached by 8’ ladder)
Restrooms:
- Cleaned, disinfected and restocked (daily)
Classrooms/Auditoriums/Conference Rooms:
- Clean blackboards/ white boards (daily)
- Restock erasers and chalk (daily)
- Tabletops/Desktops/Carrels:
- Spot clean (daily)
- Wash (weekly)
Private Offices, Labs and Shops:
- Floor Care (weekly or as needed)
Outside Entrances:
- Sweep or shovel snow, wash glass, empty cigarette
containers (as needed)
Project Work:
- Hard floor refinishing
- Carpet extraction
Project work is scheduled at the discretion of the custodial manager. Departments may also request special project work with a "Request for Services" order. (e.g initial clean-up, specialty floor cleaning, etc.) (Department charge)
Services We Do Not Provide:
- Building security or unlocking doors in general (Please, see building coordinator)
- Moving furniture (Please, see building coordinator)
- Moving or dusting personal items on desks, window sills, cabinets, etc.
- Cleaning or disposing of any office equipment
- Caring for plants
- Cleaning kitchen appliances, counters, or sinks
- Maintaining pay phones or vending machines
- Picking up lab waste, lab glass, or autoclaved material
- Breaking down cardboard boxes
Please remember that custodians are only allowed to use products approved by our department and the Department of Environmental Health and Safety.
| It should be noted that during inclement weather (e.g. snow storms) or campus emergencies (e.g. floods) custodial work schedules will be adjusted as necessary. Also, during special campus events (e.g. registration, final exams and Commencement) Building Care custodians may be reassigned. |

Please:
- Notify your custodial staff of spills on carpets immediately.
- Separate trash and recycling into their proper receptacles. Do not place items in or on these receptacles, if you do not want them removed by your custodian.
- Break down corrugated cardboard boxes.
- Do not walk on hard floors that have been freshly waxed.
- Do not walk on carpets that have been recently extraction cleaned.
- Use walk-off mats to help keep the floors clean and safe.
- Do not drag furniture on floors.
- Keep all bicycles outside.
- Clean up around your personal plants.
- Purchase hard rubber wheels for your chairs used on uncarpeted floors. Plastic wheels ruin hard floors.
