The Department of Building Care supports Cornell's academic, research, and public service mission by providing quality and cost effective custodial maintenance services in all academic, athletic, and research facilities. The department strives to maintain a clean, attractive, healthy, and safe environment for all faculty, staff, and students.

Building Care Department Highlights and Accomplishments:

  • The Department of Building Care’s 297 custodians take great pride in providing comprehensive custodial services across Cornell’s campus
  • The custodial staff produce high quality work with relatively large areas serviced
  • Over 130 campus buildings with more than 9.6 million square feet maintained
  • 15 custodial managers supervise services from fourteen separate centers
  • Strong in-house training program conducted for all staff on a wide variety of subjects
  • Quality Assurance Program conducted to ensure that high quality services are provided
  • Special custodial team facilitates Commencement, Trustee Weekend, and Barton Hall events
  • Emergency Response Team & vehicles respond to floods, fire clean-up & other emergencies
  • Custodial contracting enterprise facilitates construction clean-up and off campus buildings
