The Grounds Department provides quality services, consistent with responsible fiscal and environmental stewardship, to support the landscape maintenance, landscape construction, and solid waste management needs of the Cornell Community.
Scope of Services:
Maintain all outdoor areas on the Cornell campus at Ithaca, New York excluding Athletic Department facilities, the Hotel School, Plantations and other natural gorge areas. Our responsibilities include:
- 310 acres of lawns
- 80 acres of shrub and tree plantings
- 15 miles of roads
- 22 miles of walkways
- 114 acres of parking
- 40 miles of storm and sanitary sewer
- Snow removal with winters averaging 72 inches of snowfall annually.
- Provide excavation support and landscape restoration for trade shop repair and installation of underground utilities, and campus masonry projects.
- Repair all storm and sanitary sewer lines and inlets exterior to buildings.
- Manage campus solid waste and recycling programs which include:
- 4,500 tons of putrescible trash landfilled annually
- Recycle 39% of campus solid waste stream
